Culture Shock!

I think I have finally figured out the perfect name for my blog. Culture shock is that uncomfortable and confused feeling you get when something is unfamiliar. It is common to feel this way when you travel.

Even though I have been here in America a few months, I'm still worried about doing something wrong and either looking foolish or offending someone. Alexi says Americans would say I feel "like a fish out of water." Sometimes when I don't know how to act or how to say something, I ask Alexi for advice. It's fun learning new things, and I am lucky to have a friend to help me.

Slumber Party

I really had fun at the slumber party, but I had a little trouble joining in. All the girls wanted to talk about was boys and music and movies, but no one knows any of the bands or movies that I do except Alexi. I was feeling pretty awkward until Alexi suggested I go get some of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies so everyone could watch them. They seemed to like the movies, and now we can talk about them together!

At least we all agreed that DDR is the best game ever for slumber parties!

Cupcakes

Alexi and I made cupcakes this afternoon for the slumber party. I really liked them. They were delicious but the frosting was very sweet! I could only eat a little of it. I was afraid I would get too hyper with all that sugar! Alexi laughed at me while she licked the frosting bowl.

It was a lot of fun decorating each of the cupcakes. It reminded me of the bento boxes my mom used to make for my lunches. She didn't have lots of time in the morning but she always made sure my lunch was special and fun. My favorite was when she would make kyaraben with cute little faces or animals, so that's what I did with my cupcakes. Carlo stopped by and said something about cuteness overload, so Alexi and I made ones that looked like robots just for the boys.
